...looking at the meter lights, appears as though only 1 channel is working...also has cosmetic issues. They paid too much if you ask me. I paid $200 for mine...no shipping cost and it has the blue led upgrade with almost no cosmetic issues.

Are those words you typed the tiny font of shame?

Don't worry dude! We all have done it and besides, I've seen more paid for much less or worse by others. You'll enjoy it as soon as you get it fixed up trust me. :-D

Just FYI to all about this seller:

This guy LIES. I bought 2 boomboxes from this guy (including this 20/20). Both were returned to him (including this one). He just received it today and I guess immediately turned around and resold it. Both times, the item was not as represented. I have learned my lesson and should've known better -- leopards don't change their spots.

This particular box had very very poor cosmetics than would appear in the photos and the left handle was busted (broken internally) and the tuner is vague so it will require alignment, and the cassette is dead (not eats tape like he said) and the mechanism is jammed (play button is down). I see that he did not change the description to reflect the "true" condition so whoever gets it is going to have a rude suprise when he receives it. No doubt the seller is going to blame it on shipping damage but I am witness and do attest that the actual condition is as stated here and not as he represents in his auction. It's dealing with transactions like this that often makes me rethink the hobby of collecting when dealing with people like this.

For what it's worth, both times he refunded my money without so much as a peep, almost like he expected disappointment.

Anyhow, I hope I can remember this seller and avoid him in the future because my memory is not so good anymore (which is why I mistakenly bought it for $125) as I forgot I bought from him before.

Oops. Sorry Chris, I think you're going to have to put more into it than expected, if you decide to keep it. Unless, of course, he actually sold you a different one than the one I received.

Damn. :-/ I'm sorry man, for you Norm having to go through with this creep of a seller and for TRC for now having to deal with the same. Good thing is he refunded your money. I hope this works out for our young friend as well.

wow. maybe we should have a super secret forum area accessed by proven credentials (community approval?) that deals with ongoing auctions...so that we no longer bid against each other, share confidential bid maximums etc.,lobby for ebay dibs, can share feedback on sellers and boxes without informing EVERYONE of our collective opinions and generally struggle to control the boombox world hahahahhaah!.

Well maybe that's pushing it... but sucks TRC is gonna get a POS. :'-(

I like this is a forum open to all, that shares great knowledge and insight, but maybe there is a need for something slightly more exclusive for serious issue??

or not :-D

Amen Freddie. Transactions like this takes all the fun out of collecting, it really does. I bought on impulse and dropped a lowball bomb of $125 (figured can't lose at that price). He accepted immediately. Well, I was wrong because even though it was cheap, (and you all know I don't mind fixing stuff up) I really didn't even want to deal with this POS and just wanted my money back. :annoyed: He obliged. Right now, I'm waiting for him to refund my shipping. If he does, good. If not, then it was another $25 lesson learned. Better to put it behind than dwell on it. At least my credit card bill got knocked back down a bit. :-O

Chris I hope you get it sorted out one way or the other, good luck buddy.

Norm that just sucks and your right these are the transactions that sour the hobby but we have to move on regardless. $25 for a lesson like that is far less than many of us have paid for the same or even harder lesson so I think you got of easy. ;-)

Stupid me, I learned that lesson before already with this seller and couldn't put 2 + 2 together. It wasn't a memorable seller name and although sounded familiar, with my aging memory, didn't click at all til after I received it. Then the familar packaging, etc. started to come back to me.

Anyhow, just logged on to find a fedex notification of (item delivered), found my refund in my inbox (initial purchase) and then logged onto BBXRY to find that Chris bought this thing. I couldn't believe how quickly the turn of events.

After going back and looking at the auction pictures a second time, you can really see the flaws with the box. :-/ What makes it suck is that it's the rare International version. However...

The dent in the speaker grille can be fixed. The cassette mechanism is easy to work on. The handle is fairly easy to get to on the inside. But the scuffs on the top aluminum will be trouble. I don't know why that one knob is elevated.

It is definitely a great box to have, but the question is - is it worth the $180 shipped in its current condition? Definitely not in my book. :-/

Chris, if you go through with the auction, this box will definitely be a test of patience and love. ;-)

There will always be crappy sellers looking to take advantage of people but at least we have this site and the members to thank for saving many bad experiences. Can't stop them all but we try.

You know, frankly I thought the handle damage was due to crappy packing but the cassette description didn't jive.

Then after returning it with the broken handle, I would've thought that he would at least include those issues in it's description now that it's confirmed broken -- nope. Something is just not right with this seller as he apparently refuses to describe honestly and accurately. The cassette does not eat tapes -- it does crap with the play button jammed.

As for the cassette -- let's just say that with no parts available and non-existent documentation and schematics on this model, I'm not ready risk $150 or $180 that the cassette doesn't have broken linkages, missing springs, or what-not possibly rendering it not-repairable. The play button is jammed down, won't retract and the cassette buttons are bent too.

Anyhow, the price is so alluring that someone is going to buy it -- no question. For me and my money, I'd rather deal with honest people and a known product. No amount of cheap $$ is worth doing business with unscrupulous sellers.
