I was inspired by this thread by member SLO: CLICK HERE who has a NIB Emerson CTR960.
I bought mine about 3 years ago from a thrift store, filthy, missing battery door. I think I paid $3-$5 or $8 for it. It was in sad shape, but it has a proper Line In and a Loudness Button, so I was IN
I think I gave it a wipe down when I got it, but not much more. I break it out from time to time, BBQ with it. I often set it up in the living room on a timer when I am away for the weekend. So it does get some use.
But tonight, it's getting "The Full Boomboxery Spa Treatment"
What I started with...
http://youtu.be/BpXSAles-j8
Of course it was FILTHY inside. One thing nice about this radio is, a few screw, press eject and the whole face comes off. No wires or plugs!
Into the sink for washing...
Got to hear some tunes while the work goes on, so the Discolite is working hard pumping out some Adman and the Ant's!
Some dish soap and soft sponging gets it all clean...
As it turns out, this radio isn't black at all. It's a charcoal metallic with a touch of root beer!
Clean in and out...
Getting the dents out of the grills...
Finished! It cleaned up well. All the controls cleaned. I measured the deck belts. They will be ordered and replaced. The loudness button issue was resolved with some Deoxit and the sound has improved greatly! Down the line I think I will replace the pizzo tweeters with real ones and I still need to make a battery door.
