Hey Guys,,
After reading Alf's restoration of his Lasonic TRC 922 and now seeing Hemiguy's resto of Redbenjoe's GF-1000 I got fired up to get off my arse and clean up my second Toshiba RT 9990SM that I brough home from Japan this year.
So, here it is, our subject:
Thankfully this radio did not come from a smokers home and for the most part is very clean, just SUPER dusty
This is what I had to start with.....
Once opened up, you can see the dust bunnies....they were packed in every corner of this radio!
Here is the speaker info....in case you were wondering....
The counter was PACKED with dust!
So, all the belts were GOO, what the hell do these things turn into? They start out as rubber, what do they become? Also, this crap doesn't come off your hands!
It took about an hour to fully clean all the pulley's in the system....what a mess
ALL BELTS REPLACED!
After blasting everything with the compressor and wiping it all out with a microfiber clothe...CLEAN
On to the front case.....which was just as packed....the speakers were full of dust....It makes me think that this radio sat on a shelf in Japan for a good part of it's life Just collecting dust!
Ahhhh....clean speakers are the best!
This thing clean up well...
HERE ARE SOME GLAMOUR PICS OF THE FINISHED PRODUCT....
( The radio with the REEL cassette is the one I just finished)
Here is a video of the RT 9990SM doing it's thing (choose to see it in HD)
