Member Fresh Produce has a marantz PMS-7000 with a broken tuning shaft. (see thread above for history and picture).

Anyhow, it turns out the original owner broke the tuning knob off. The shaft broke off along with the knob. The owner then tried to superglue the knob with gobs and gobs of superglue. Of course that's like trying to superglue a loaded barbell onto the wall, by the end of the barbell shaft. :dunce: Needless to say, repair failed and superglue "fixed" the tuner onto 1 station.

Here is my fix. There is a bunch of other things wrong that needs addressing but if anyone has a tuning knob or tuning/battery meter available, contact Fresh Produce.

right proud to be in the same club with norm

were you at ace hardware or your local hobby shop all day --
trying to find the perfect inner/outer diameters ?? :-)

some ' telescope ' like antennas --
and some are 'press fits'

i dont ever like the 'heat to fit' process -
unless thats your only choice

The heat to fit (welding/soldering) process is by far, the most durable. End gluing with superglue never makes for a strong repair. But in my experience, superglue inside of a sleeve is almost impossible to separate.

even 'gentle' crimps are ugly -
but the do make a lasting fit

Nope. What I left out was that I already attempted a crimp the first time and even the nice friction fit became lost. I had to redo it all over again. What is shown here was the re-do. The crimp actually made the fit worse because the aluminum and inner brass also crushes but doesn't bounce back to make a pressure fit.

Wrong again. That cheapo caliper thing costs $2.99 so I guess I must've overpaid.

No chance. 100% made in India Stainless Steel. Besides. I neglected to tell you that I used this tool at least 38 times on all those things I worked on for you already.  Which explains the crappy jobs. :-D

Great work Norm, your skills seem to be expanding.

Save those good tools for your own boxes and keep using the cheapies on Ira's. :-D

as an 'its all relative' observation -- :hmmm:

i want to claim that if norms identical amount of time // sweat // plans // trials and talent --
went into a broken tuner shaft on a 56 ferrari radio -

that would be a $1500 repair
:-O :-) :-)

Dammit Ira. I charged Fresh Produce $3000 and now you blew the lid off my price gouge scam. How can I convince him now that the repair is worth less than 1/2 that? :nonono: :sadno: :-O

In all seriousness -- anyone got a '56 ferrari tuner shaft that needs shafted... er repaired? :w00t: :hmmm: I NEED to earn $1500. $1450 only for members. :-D
