Hi folks :)

I have a melted belt situation and lots of old grease on metal and plastic in a cassette deck that needs restoring and I wanted to ask, what might you recommend for removing the muck and cleaning up metal and plastic parts? And, for restoring aged plastic and metal exterior parts? (For example, a chrome-style telescopic FM antenna.)

I hear good things about isopropyl alcohol, and I have some PRF 7-78 in the garage... Anything else I should add to the toolkit?

Thanks!

I use Autosol metal polishing for metal parts, eg antennas.
For plastics I use Autosol acrylic and plastic polish.
For finer plastic scratches, try using Plexus

I've cleared so many boxes of gooey belts now I don't care to remember.
By far the easiest to remove goo and hard stubborn melted belts are wonder wipes.

I prefer 0% Mineral Spirits (white spirit). You can buy it from paint stores and hardware places.
0% means it has 0% aromatic content.
It is harmless on paint and plastic. Any solvent on prolonged exposure can affect paint and swell plastic.
