I do civil engineering for a living but am a powder coater in my free time at home. I noticed while fixing up my Sanyo last week that a lot of the speaker grills are metal on these old boomboxes. Most of you are using spray paint to get that "new" look on your grills, but I powder coated mine and was very pleased with how it turned out.

I offer my coating skills on car forums, but was wondering if you guys would be interested in something like this.... Not sure on price per set of grills, but throw some ideas at me.

BTW, I can do just about any color too. Chromes, black, illusions, solid, textures, etc...

Here is a before and after. I used mirror gloss black on the Sanyo grill.

blu I think powder coating would work well on many boxes but I like most are probably seriously wondering if it would be worth the extra cost over painting as well as the turn around time. :hmmm:

Hey Blu, I'd use your services but you might get more responses if you actually post what you'd want to charge. Maybe you could collect a bunch and do them all at the same time. There isn't a whole lot in a boomox that can be powerdercoated (aside from grills) due to the baking process.

I was thinking about $35-40 for a pair of covers, and about $25-30 for a single one like mine any color. That price would include return shipping in the USA also.

Cool idea. I wouldnt do it myself though, it wouldnt be worth the risk of a lost package in the mail. Id rather have old grills than no grills on my grails.

Although well done packages rarely get lost for ever it sure would suck if the package with your grilles was one that dissapeared.
