I think I know the answer to this (and it's no or maybe it depends) but is it possible to use rechargebale batteries with a 'box? I guess I should have done my research before buying the batteries, but they're not working despite a full charge. Unfortunately, I don't have regular batteirs to test with. Contacts look clean and the box otherwise is in working order.

Yes they should work with a boombox and you might want to check to see if your AC/DC switch is it the right position if it has one.

are these D cell or C cell?

The OP says that he only tested with rechargeables batteries and not with regular batteries. Sounds like this is more of a "my boombox won't work with batteries" issue rather than a "rechargeable batteries don't work in boxes" issue.

Yeah, it very well could be and if I had enough regular Ds on hand, I'd have tested that way first. That said, I will test to rule that out as soon as I get to the store.

And I'm talking D cells here. I'm not sure I'm getting enough voltage off them, based on what I'm seeing around the web. But I will try with Duracells to at least eliminate that. :D

I'd take it apart and see if the voltage is getting by the ac/dc switch.
The switch is usually integrated into the ac plug receptacle.

After writing the above, I realized you probably don't have a multimeter or you could've tested the voltages on the rechargeable batteries so if you don't, disregard my suggestion.
