Been looking for a nice specimen for a long time. Recently, BBX prices have really dropped. Found these 2 for what I would call pretty good deals a couple months ago. Both almost identical in condition. Both obtained within a couple days of each other. Rarely do I ever buy duplicates so close together but you know how it goes, stuff always seem to get listed in bunches. The panasonic RX-5250's are a perfect example. You don't hardly see any at all. Now all of a sudden, there has been a rash of them. Great time to buy boomboxes, guys! Stuff is really really cheap right now. I don't want to hear anyone complaining about the high prices of boomboxes. It just aint true right now. Oh sure, there is an exception to every rule but in general, non grails (and even some grails) can be had for a good price.

The reason for the books: Unlike the blockbuster which has a flat top, the SCR-8 has strap hooks on the edges which protrude up making it difficult to stack. My daughters books were just the ticket although she was hollering at me the whole time for possibly making marks on her books. (A book collector in the making, wanting to keep her books pristine).

I like them. A little smaller physically than what I expected but they are built like a rock.

The change is very subtle monchito. I think I'd have to have mine and yours side/side to notice the difference. They ARE pretty cool boxes, though, aren't they? Build like a rock. No creakers here.

Ramon, I thought the Lasonics used 8" speakers. The SCR-8 looks to use 6.5" right? Also, does it handle power better now -- I mean, can you crank it way up without distortion?

well it handles a lot better and the lasonic you are talking about is the 931 that has the 8in speakers these i got from a 920t which are rated at 4 ohms@ 7watts max and the original are3.2ohms@ 8watt max but the lasonic speakers have cloth surrounds so the speakers moves a bit more freely and you cannot drive the bass all the way even at low volume it rattles the box thats how powerful the bass is on this box i was able to drive her pass the half way volume and its loud and after that well you know,, this is the best time to compare with some other boxes........

Yeah, you are right. Unlike the M9994, M9998, MX-920, the Pioneers, etc. some boxes just don't like the volume above the 1/2 way mark. This is one of them. Great performance up to and maybe even a bit past the 1/2 way mark. Then it sort of craps out. Come to think of it, some very expensive boomboxes does that as well.

yes indeed norm so i guess that half way mark for most or maybe all boxes even the conion c100 its loud as heck but this sucker the volume is around the 3 mark thats about it as soon as you push it it breaks up so the only way is taking off all your bass and half of treble just to be able to bring the volume up a bit more but basicly all boxes suffer like that distortion is something that you cant get away with these boxes so you have to find the sweet spot and know where your max volume is without the distortion and still have a loud box with good bass and treble response

Looking great, Superduper!

I've gotta get myself one of those - I'm a sucker for the extra long LED arrays!

Monchito, would you agree with me that Lasonic probably has the best woofers ever put into a boombox?

Btw, great mod!

they are at least to me they are some good paper cloth surround and good power handling the trc-931 are rated at 30 watts the ones i used are from the lasonic trc-920t which are rated for 7watts max so it worked out great for my scr-8   and for the 918 i belive at 15watts
