in fact, i would say it compares very well against sharp's gf9292 and gf9494 - the gf990 has good bass and crisp highs playing good CrO2 tape, and similar quality on strong FM stations.
the synthesiser part is great fun too, and i've yet to fully explore its programming/sounds, despite the hefty users' manual that came with it
... overall, not a bad find in a local thrift shop!
