Not a new occurrence here but I was 10 minutes from buying this box when it was offered at 200 bucks as a “buy it now” and I didn’t because I have enough boxes that “need work” and really didn’t want another beast looking box with messed up insides. Needless to say I was shocked that it went for 458! $258 more than what the seller thought he would get. And this is also the reason why I hate bidding on boxes. There is always, always, always somebody willing to spend more than you. No matter what works, what doesn’t work, etc…

Just an observation

Yeah, happens all the time.

I have 2 deals I will never forget on ebay.

1. Gold Conion C100 complete and fully working for $500 buy it now. Passed on it because the seller had 0 feedback. M40dotcom member here took the chance and ended up with this gem. :bang:

2. Brand new in box Panasonic 5500. Buy it now was $199. I bid to kill the buy it now thinking I would get it for $100 in the end. It went for well over $1,000 after the bidding was over. :bang:

WOW, a 1,000 for a Pana 5500??? Geez. I’m not at the point where I’m in to “flipping boxes” lol. I buy based on sound and aesthetics. I’ve seen some very good deals on boxes I just didn’t like. It might be time to reevaluate my intentions here -lol Hec; I passed on Sharp 8989 in great condition for 80 bucks because I already had one. lol

IMO, that's a high price for a 922. These don't come up all that often, but that seems very expensive! $450 for any mid sized Lasonic is expensive. That's high end 975 territory

I didn't know the seller can offer a "Buy it Now" to someone. Is that like a private offer kind of thing? Been a long time since I sold anything on eBay. Kind of cool/scary at the same time. You must have had the highest bid at the time I'm guessing? Sucks that it slipped away.

I agree $450 is expensive, I'm still new to the game, but I still "watch" everything I find interesting, and when I do see these, 200 or less is what I've always seen them go for... Didn't this one have a few broken/missing things too?

No, it wasn't offered just to me, but it sat there as a "buy it now" for a good 24 hours. I saw it when it was first posted. If the tape deck and tape deck door would have been operational - I would have snapped it up proabaly. But when a bid was placed on the item - the "Buy it now" goes away. My bid was 100. Obviously way off. lol Hec, if I would have known someone would be willing to pay 458 - I would have bought it for the 200 and auctioned it off right away. lololol

i agree also there are other lasonic's like the 931 that will kick the 922's ass all day long and for about the same price or less. the 922 is nice but not 450 bucks nice.

I agree, but when someone wants something so bad, and they have the cash to back it up, I guess no price is too high.

My 1st eBay purchase for a boombox was my Lasonic TRC-931 on a BIN for $400! Personally at the time, I thought I overpaid. But after getting outbid at least 4 other times on a 931, I was getting frustrated and I got impatient. On top of that I was pretty green and new to the game. Still am. It looked clean in the pictures and ended up being very clean and all in working order upon arrival so I'm happy about that at least.

I'm definitely more patient these days and just keep my eyes open for that score of the decade. I'm sure it'll happen one day dammit!

bout damn time i had something of value because my 920 is as clean as they come after 5 years of work lol.

i agree i mean if they must have it then the price is not a factor even though it would be nice to steal one at a reasonable price .

I believe Ira got over $400 for the black Lasonic 920T he had on epay. I know he really wanted that box when he got it from me but it ended up having some issues he didn't want to deal with. I agree the 920s are nice but not $400+ nice.....

Just wait a couple weeks, you'll be able to score some good deals because everyone will be either away for the holidays, or broke cuz they need to buy gifts, lol. The real bidding wars happen in Feb/Mar after tax returns come in.

Ha, that must have been back when people thought 5500's were rare. I remember one sold for $700 without a box or anything. Then the market got flooded and they go for only like 200 now.

What amazes me is how consistently people pay an average of $400 for a clean M70. Do all those people really have nostalgia for that box and remember it from their youth, or are they buying it only because the forum says it's great?

I think all the comments from M70 lovers on this forum have made the price jump up a bit. I personally don't really get the whole M70 thing though - a hint for people out there who want great bang for buck - crank up a healthy Hitachi TRK-9150 and watch the M70 owners run for cover! (Only joking):-) Current collector value of a TRK-9150 --> pocket change :-)

James...... :-)

It was me that drove the price of that box so hi....
As I'm in the uk I had to throw in a high bid before I went to bed As the auction was ending while I was sleeping, as the current bids was low at the time I expected to wake up in the morning seeing I won it at a much lower price than I bid but instead I was outbid only by a few $
Got to say I was suprised and gutted!!!!
So if anyone has one to sell or trade please let me know.... I have some good trade boxes!

Was that Lasonic a fully working box? I hope so for the money spent. :-)

1.You are 100 percent right. Like that saying goes- “How much is a boombox worth? Well its worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it!” lol
2.Also, like anything else people “collect.” I think “when” you want something and the “availability” of what you want makes all the difference in the world. Some weeks I see 7 to 10 931s for sale from 25 to 300 bucks. Some weeks I see none. Same with M-70, and Magnavox D8443s….. For example I bended and took a chance on a JVC 838 that’s not working. Spent like 80 bucks for the damn thing. But I did it because at the time – I just couldn’t find one (the seller never clarified if it was working. I took a similar chance on a Sharp 8989 and it paid off)). NOWWWWWWWWWWWW I’ve seen about 5 or 6 in the last 2 weeks and I’m kicking myself. I guess the key word is “patience” lololol

It had very minor issues that was a very easy fix
I made the first bid on that box and I can't say it would have been an easy fix for me-lolol But the seller did the best he could in trying to explain what all was wrong with the box
