Hi Guys,
Well a few weeks ago I bought a little Hitachi TRK-9300. Now this model isn't like the 9140E which had speaker terminals that were part of the speaker mounts - now that was a great setup! The TRK-9300 is like most other 3 piece boxes in that it requires external speaker wires hanging off the back of the unit.
The 9300 does utilise RCA plugs though which is better IMHO than separate exposed speaker wires clipping into the + & - terminals.
The original speaker wires provided are very thin. The Hitachi RCA plugs also stick out a long way and are prone to damage etc when placing the unit up against a wall or onto the seat of a car - my unit had a damaged circuit board at the speaker outputs that required resoldering. My 9300 didn't even have the original wires. The previous owner in their wisdom had fitted very thin wires that were barely long enough to reach the terminals - not much point having a 3 piece unit if you can't space out the speakers!
He had simply twisted the wires together at the terminals of the woofers and then dribbled some blobs of solder onto each bunch of wires to make it look even worse! One positive wire was within 2 mms from shorting out the negative wire on the left woofer - I bet the amp would have loved that!!
I obviously wasn't happy with this setup so I ordered some good quality RCA 90 degree plugs from ebay - took 2 weeks to arrive.
I have now rewired the speakers, resoldered the connections properly and modified the wire 'pincher' inside the speaker boxes to accommodate the thicker wire. The hole at the side of the speaker cable door was a perfect fit for the thicker wire and helps keep them nice and firm to avoid loose wires!
I know it would have been nicer to have two black plugs instead of one black and one red but I would have had to purchase 2 complete RCA wires.
The resto on this unit is now complete!!
