Does a m70 sound better than a sanyo 920 or equal to it..... I loved my sanyo 920 towards the end and have regrets selling her... for example she looked way better than an m90.. the 920 was just the complete package good sound as well as looks...

There is an m70 on the bay and im thinking of buying her altho imho she is on the expencive side...

Also does the m70 have dolby??? thanks :-)

lav loo, a member on stereo2go, described the 920 as sounding as good as the M90, if not better. So I'm guessing the 920 sounds way better than the M70.

Thanks retro addict :-) I can confirm the m90 sounds better than the 920 as lav loo bought the 920 from me..... but the 920 has it all looks much better than an m90 and it does sound great...

:agree: 920 just looks great! Although, Sanyo's 9998 looks a bit meaner :-)

How do I solve this choice. I know, I'll just get them all! :hmmm:

Regarding the 920 and the 9888 just buy them both... after all you are a boombox collectoor are you not... or you wouldnt be here

My only advice is to buy them with working decks if yr gunna use tapes cuz the decks are a PITA to fix :-)

In my opinion the 920 has better clarity and smoother power distribution and that wonderful wide setting, but the M70 is louder and the bass on the M70 hits harder...so to me they are 2 completely different boxes with different approaches to sound reproduction... :-D ...hope that helps...my 920 is in pieces right now getting some fresh paint and a thorough scrubbing... :-D

No Dolby on the M70. Has a Metal, Chrome, Normal switch. Also, the treble control is aggressive in boost and cut. So, you could notch it down to take care of the hisssssss.

I like my tapes to sound "hot." I wouldn't use Dolby if it was on the M70.

I can tell you Chrome and Metal tapes sound fantastic on that machine.

Thank you sir..... I went to buy the m70 but she had gone..... Im not so sure I want an m70 now though as I am a big dolby fan, Its not that i Use dolby all the time I just like having dolby on there, the only dolby I use most of the time is on the m90 because I have wrigged the dolby path so that when I use it, it boosts the treble responce as well as getting rid of unwanted tape hiss....

Hey Rimmer. Here's my 2 cents. Don't bother with the M70. It is everything you hate. It is not big. It has all the controls on top. You can't stack it. The tape has to be inserted upside down. It has stiff speakers. No Dolby. No logic controls. And sounds nothing like an M90 or 920. You'll hate it. Then you'll tear it apart about 100 times. Then you'll toss it in the bin. Or toss it off a cliff like your Unisef/Crown. Whichever is closer. LMAO!

It sounds really good at full tilt. The sound is very clean.I've heard a lot more boxes that have better balance at lower volumes though. It's build quality, clean mids, solid (if not always good on balance) bass, and power are going for it.It's far from my favorite box however. These have just been so hyped that they could never live up to the expectation created by some in the community.

Hey Rimmer,

How a boombox "Sounds", is really in the "ear" of the beholder. Everyone has different tastes in the way they like to "hear" there music. Some like highs, some bass, some mids. So really it would be up to you how you like the sound of a boombox.

I don't have the 920, but against the 960(big ben) the M70 has a much "warmer" sound. The 960 is almost "shrill", you have to leave the treble at 0 or less :-) But then again, that's how I "hear" it :-P

920 sounds nothing like 960 - they don't call it BigBen for nothing :-D
And yes, BigBen has treble like no other boombox - highly recommend it! And BigBen sounds better than M70 in my opinion.

I recommend the M70. It's epic in every way! (except when the sliders decide to go)

  Crank the Treble on a 960 to max and you'll need to see a doctor about your split ear drums. The 960 is one of just a few boxes I know of that I can turn the Treble control to the minus territory and not feel like I turned the highs off.

:agree: That's a great recommendation, I was thinking Tim wouldn't be happy with it for many of those same reasons.
