Hi,

There is one of these 780s for sale locally. I'm really tempted to buy it tomorrow. It's in minty condition.

Does it have a 'proper' line-in?

For members who have both: How well does it perform against the Panasonic RX-CT900?

Also, what's the general opinion of this model?

A pic of one...

Yes it has line in, actually I think it's called CD IN but same thing.
It will beat an RX-CT900 in sound quality and bass even though the 900 does pretty good there and in fact it's the equivalent of the famous RX-DT680. Anything under $100 for a minty probably is a decent buy but I probably wouldn't spend over $50 to $60.

:-D Run man go get it quick rapido andale  it sounds amazing just like the RX-DT680, I like this one better cause is built with an analog tuner like Iras likes them instead of the digital one  , And the cassette is mechanical which means it can take a beating pressing play rewind fast foward. Very tough box, I have too, One is mint for indoors and the other with scratches here and there for the outdoors. It has bass to spare with with barely no distortion and is not heavy very easy to carry. Now go get it RA and tell of about it. I'm sure you'll like.

Definitely pick this one up. It has great sound and bass like the 680. The cassette sounds better than the 680 and it does have a proper line in (cd in).

GOT IT!

Just tried it out and found there's no control to switch the S-XBS (extra bass) on and off like the RX-CT900 has (in effect, a loudness switch). It has a knob which controls how much bass is produced. I must say that at this point the box is a bit of a let down. The graphic equalizer does a good job, but S-XBS control only makes a slight difference when off or full on. Is this normal for these boxes? At this point I'm thinking the RX-CT900 sounds a lot better than this model. Where is the oomph from these two amplifiers?

:hmmm: :-) I would give it a good tuner clean up through the controls and try it out again cause I know mines cranks and hits hard on the bass and it makes a big diference on the S-XBS control on mines. I did compare the CT-900 against the 780 and the 780 does out performs. Hope you can get it sorted out man, Sorry for the disapointment.

I've found that the bass is better if I set the 100hz slider half way up, and the S-XBS control all the way up. I think the S-XBS needs some contact cleaner, which I will see to.

I'm really starting to like this boombox now. I'll post some pics of it shortly.

I could be wrong, but I believe it has four amplifiers, not two.
One per speaker. :w00t:

I love mine. The bass is, as Rimmer once said, "creamy."
