question

today i got a philips stereo sound machine d8614 for free, looks still good, but when i plug it and push the powerbutton all i get is a loud and more or less steady buz or hum, what can it be?
any help would be appreciated, thanx in advance

Maybe a bad ground on the tape play head?

me i would open her up and clean all switches and especially the record bar ,,,i have found a couple of boxes that buzzed with just doing the cleaning took care of it ,,, remember some boxes will sit and create oxidation on the switch surface,, some cleaning is known to take care of most those problems....
