If they take the same amount of D cells then they should be the same (or same-ish).

That's what I'm thinking, but I don't know how many batteries each takes. :-/

Pretty sure my 8585 takes 8 D's, that's 12 Volts, I will confirm in a couple of hours when I get home from work.

No. That is a bad assumption. The only thing consistent about having the same # of D cells is the voltage. It's the amount of current that each transformer or power supply is able to supply that distinguishes them. Much better to compare the power consumption specs label as shown at the rear of the boombox. That's not to say that the 8585 and 9191 won't have the same power supply. I'm just saying that the # of D cells used is not a reliable indicator.

Confirmed 12 volts. Claimed power draw on the GF 8585 box is 24 watts.

Superduper: if the replacement transformer power rating is higher then there will be no problem, if it is lower then he may not be able to run the box at higher volumes. Something to bear in mind when replacing transformers. Also you run into issues if there are multi taps from the transformer. Best to carefully check all these things before attempting a swap. It not only has to appear the same it has to be electrically the same.

GENERAL DISCLAIMER NOT AIMED AT ANYONE IN PARTICULAR:

Mains voltage can kill you or a loved one. If you don't know what you are doing get a qualified service technichian to fix your box.

If you don't know what you are doing get a qualified service technichian to fix your box......even these get jagged from time to time with electricity

Thanks for all the information, guys. The 9191 that I'll be getting draws 14W and is a 15V machine. So, it looks like swapping an 8585 transformer into a 9191 will definitely not work. :-/

Bobby my GF 9191 draws 35 watts at 15V ;-)

OH :-O :-O You got the green chinese box... That is very strange about the watts... They are litterally the same box minus the transformer :hmmm: :hmmm: Maybe Norm could shed some light :-D
