After opening up my Lasonic 935 I noticed that there are these two shells where mid range speakers could go(but nothing is there). It looks like perfect placement for a couple of led VU meters. I love them on the JC-2000. I guess my question is, how hard would this be. Has anyone tried something like this. I am kinda confident soldering and would love to do something to really make this my baby. Are these VU led boards hard to come by? Anyway, any thoughts from you guys here would be most appreciated.

Well I would say lots of different mods look cool, but most mods are because a box is so far gone that they need changes, like paint and such. I would say keep it stock unless you necessarily have to change due to box being screwed up. Again this is only my opinion.

A little story is that just before I started collecting august of 2008 I had my Lasonic TRC975 in the garage, basement ect... This bbx I had bought brand new in 1993. Anyway one day while being on work comp. I was bored so I decided to clean up the 975 and repair problem it had with one speaker not fully working. Well I took it apart and found problem with a broken solder joint on my input RCA jacks. So I soldered them and that took care of the speaker issue.

Next I cleaned the box up and took out speakers to clean. Well they were all yellow so I painted them Black to cover yellow. Next I thought about adding midrange speakers to make the 3 way speakers. I started to measure and come up with something. Then I thought why should I change things when box was super clean and almost like New... So I went on eBay just to look up Boomboxes and see what on it. Low and behold a Lasonic TRC975 was selling for $800 :-O I nearly **** a brick. Then I decided to look up another boombox I use to own, was the 1st stereo bbx I purchased from Venture back in "83"...,. a Panasonic RX5010 for $50..

Well I found one pretty clean for $45 shipped. So I got it and even lied about price to my Ex wife because she was a b--ch. Anyway long story short I finished cleaning my 975 and even reprinted woofers back to white to get the whole originality back. I'm so happy I did not change anything because the box is clean and stock :breakdance:

So that's how I got my start collecting and again you do what you want but don't forget most things can't be reversed so if you don't like it, or it may also get a lower resale value. Good luck. Here is pic of mine with the black speakers and then the white. I think white looks so much cooler.

You've got a point. While I am not really concerned with resale value, I do realize that I would be really crushed if I get this box , try something and it doesn't come out right and then I'm screwed. Still, I can't help thinking it would look sick. BTW, your 975 does look better with the white. I removed the foam and the little plastic crossbar from behind the grills to reveal my white woofers. I think it looks much better. The only thing holding me back on the 935 initially was not being able to see the woofers. Such an easy fix and makes all the difference to me.
Anyway, I am still just thinking on it. I normally take forever to make decisions like that, which is why I'm asking for input. Even if someone came on here and said...it's easy, I've done it before and it looks good, and here's the kit...I would still think it over for like a month :hmmm: :hmmm: :hmmm:

Well you can always try it with a beater box. Then no loss ;-)

For what it's worth, I've modified scores of boxes and never regretted the work I did on any of them. Do a search and you'll see many of the boxes I did. That's just me, from different perspective. In my own humble opinion, I don't believe any of my boxes are worth less than before I started my work. The key is tasteful work and not hack jobs.
