Yo! Bum rush the show was a slamming LP, but It takes a nation.....is my favourite PE long player. Def Jam could do no wrong in those days.
We probably got similar rap LPs there sean..... :-D

thats probably the album that gets most people into Public Enemy.... definately a Defjam classic.

its the raw sound of bumrush the show, and more Chuck spittin lyrics as aposed to Flava going 'Yeeeeah cold chillin in effect'

That Yo! album was mainly produced by Bill Stepney. Chuck, Hank Shoklee and Eric Sadler I believe were less influential than on later albums. I think that Rick Rubin had an Executive role on both albums before he left Def Jam (major loss IMHO). That was the beauty of that Def Jam sound up to 1987 as it was so raw and gritty. My favourite track was always the title track. When I got the album, looking at the cover I was like, 'what the hell is this?' It was menacing looking, brilliant content and great to see them in concert in 1987.

wow you really know ur rap music :super:

i read somewhere there was an original printing for that album where the group's reaching for guns, not the familliar turntables cover

Rightstarter & Raise the Roof would be the highlights of that album for me. Banging rightstarter on the 575 as we speak :breakdance:

Damn sean I wish I was there

I think I vaguely remember something like that about the cover, now that you mention it. Tell you what though, on the 12" of ,'Your gonna get yours', you can see a few guns dotted around the cover photo.

Both of your favourite tracks are the amongst the strongest on the LP.

Cheers
