I so love Isobariks

these are truely LEGENDS

I wonder if you could make an ISOBARIK boombox?

* In 1974, Linn patented the Isobarik bass system, This
method of loading employs a second bass driver located inside the cabinet. A small sealed enclosure couples this
hidden drive unit to the bass driver mounted on the front baffle. Because these drivers work in phase with each
other, the air pressure in the small enclosure between the drivers remains nearly constant (hence the name
Isobarik). The primary bass driver, seeing less change in back pressure, behaves as if it were in a significantly
larger box. The technique of Isobarik loading gives an extended and tightly controlled bass response

they're designed to work with the NAIM SIX PACK

that is 6 Naim NAP 135 mono amplifiers working in 2 sets of 3 powering each driver pair.

Put this is no cheap set up

for this you'll also need ACTIVE cross overs

and these require Naim HiCaps (dedicatede PSU)

if I told you that second hand NAP250's cost 1000 pounds each 2nd hand (2000 new)
and
that HiCaps cost 600 pounds 2nd hand (100 new)

then you'll need 6 pairs of NACA speaker cable for each span (45 pounds per metre)

and then a NAC pre amp -maybe a 2nd hand NAC52 2000 pounds 2nd hand
this then requires a SUPERCAP 2000 pounds 2nd hand

and then you need your source - you did have a source didn't you?

lols

something tells me you would

when I went to a shop when I was 17 and saw this stuff - I asked myself "how could it possibly be worth 35000 pounds"

then the shop assistant cranked it up . . . . . . . .

it's decent 2nd hand kit - you can sell for the same amount or maybe more - it's like rental!!

What d'ya reckon of my new speakers?
Need work - as the previous owners kids have mashed in ALL four tweeters and had a go at ALL four mid range drivers

Winter project indeed

They sound good even with 8 damaged speakers :w00t:

well Shane

do you wanna know about the speakers in general - or about my speakers?
http://www.Mybriks.com

For the record - they weigh 40kilos each without the 10 kilo stands
They retailed for 1900 pounds in 1990
the stands retailed for 160

and i'm running them with a little 40wpc Naim 140 power amp

The bass these things make at low volumes with just a little amp is just stupid

I'll put more pics up later this week

These things f**king PUMP the bass at ANY levels!

I have never experienced home speakers like this!

The Isobaric principle WORKS - (driver in an infinite baffle behind another driver)

I only have one working tweeter - so sonically these suck at the moment - and I'm only running with a single 40wpc amp
They're desgined to work with the NAIM NAP135 monoblocs - which are more like 70wpc (and although that may sound like small beans to you Americans - let me assure you NAIM wattts are DEMON they're like normal watts x 10 to the power INFINITY (probably)).

After inquiring about the cost of replacement tweeters I have found out they are 475 euros for 4 - delivered from the manufacturer in Denmark (Hiquphon)

And to remove the present tweeters I have been told by experts I need to use a claw hammer (if that sounds OTT - check out this pic on how to remove the inner woofer in the isobaric chamber)
