do you guys have any tips on prepping a box to paint? what do you use to fill the deep scratches? :jason: what are sand paper recommendations?

Tap Plastics can probably help you with a plastic filler...they are located in Concord CA. and have a website. The sandpaper I normally use is 400 grit for nicks and surface scratches and 600 grit on the rest of the surface to prep for paint....after sanding be sure to clean the surface of all dust and do not touch with bare hands before painting or the oil from your skin will prevent the paint from sticking... :-D

Sorry for the necro :grim:

Mellymel, nice advice, any thoughts on wet sanding vs. dry? Just prepping my first box for painting :-)

High build automotive primer and wet sanding between coats will work for hiding
imperfections prior to final painting.

Thanks! Will head out in a bit to get some proper paper.. I have some good auto base/finish paints, plus a selection of fun colour options.

I took Vienna's advice and went back for this Realistic SCR-9 box. They wanted $7, I offered $4, sold for $5

It IS the perfect simple box for me to start my customizing :-D
