It's a lot older than my Galaxy S-III, and that's getting old, too.

I was eying this one on eBay for a while. I had several reasons for pulling the trigger.:
1) I got the itch.
2) It looks cool.
3) I could use a '70's box in the collection.
4) I wanted that Denon that Skippy got, but I had to walk away thanks to emergency dental surgery (good time).
5) WhyTF not?

Here you go...

It's hard to tell in the pic, but it's pretty filthy. I did clean all switches, pots, and the deck. I think the deck was serviced at some point in the last (10 +/- ?) years because all the rubber appeared pretty clean and fresh, which surprised me. It now functions perfectly and I'll be doing a full clean-up and just a little resto work (including repainting the grills) over the next several days. I've been smart enough to document the work this time, so I'll post in "Restorations and Customizations" when complete.

It sounds really good, especially on the "MTRX" setting, which also surprised me (I'm not sure what I expected in the first place :hmmm:).
Another thing to mention is the Line-In function. When I started testing it after the initial service, I was thinking that it sounds so good I should do the Superduper line-in mod. I'd prefer not to drill a new hole for a stereo jack, but it doesn't scare me. So, I hooked up my (yes) Samsung Galaxy to test the record function through the factory line-in RCA jacks. I got nothing when set to Tape function, so I played around with the function switch and set it to Radio. Behold! We have sound and it records! What's so "mentionable" about that? The line-in functions without recording! The RCA's switch the tuner, just like the Superduper line-in mod!

So, I'm pretty pleased with my little 9V pick-up. I'll post some more pics to this thread, when I get home from work.

I have never seen a Samsung Boombox before

It almost has the Sony 550 thing going on. You have to respect the forward thinking they had back then with line in / functionality that make it such a relevant piece of useable equipment today.

Glad to hear the deck is already worked out. Oh, the days where you could just drop a cassette player off at a service department and pick it up properly serviced and adjusted!

Looking forward to the cleaned up pictures and if you could get some more pictures of the control panel, that would be great.

BTW, I chose

Some more pics for your viewing pleasure. Some are better than others.
I was hoping to capture how dirty it is, but my photo skills and equipment are questionable. I guess the best description would be "dingy." The grills have a slight tinge of surface rust too.

And here's a look at the back side of the deck. It works perfectly and has a very solid, metallic, positive feel to it. It plays really nice, but the record quality is pretty mediocre. I'm playing Cypress Hill on it right now. It has one flat belt, a little square belt for the counter, 3 idlers, and 2 clutches.

Nice Samsung

Matsu$hita aka :-)

What is printed on the motor, manufacturer, year?
I have it buttoned up right now. I'll have to check when I open it up for the final resto/clean-up. I'm hoping to get started this weekend, but I have a busy couple of weeks ahead of me with the holiday.

He is a perfect example and pretty rare being a Samsung.

Should come up shining after restoration.

Sound quality might be due to worn out head?

I was thinking that. The playback quality is excellent, it's just the record quality that's so-so. I don't plan on doing a lot of recording with it, so it's not something I'll lose sleep over.

I started really digging in last night. It's coming up nicely, but the screen printing on the aluminum trim is extremely delicate, so I had to tip-toe around it. I could only find pics of two other examples of this box, and one is completely missing the text on the trim. It was on ebay last week, but it didn't sell. It was in much rougher shape than this one.
Resto pics coming soon.

National RS-466, RS-460
Similar shape but the RS-460 (my own SD version shewn below for comparison) has far fewer knobs, no lamp, no bass control and no balance, just dual volumes:

I like the Samsung though, it would look good stood by the NatPan.
