'Sup everyone...

So, I bid on and won this Sony CFS 500 which should arrive any day now. The listing claimed that the box had some paint splatter on it. So, depending on how visible this is (not visible from the photo), this may be my first clean up box. My questions are 1) assuming there is some splatter, what could I use to remove it without damaging the box finish? and 2) I keep hearing people reference DEOXIT, what is this and what is it used for? Thanks guys... (ps. this would bring my collection to... drum roll: 2, not including the Lasonic iPod Boombox, which as this VERY moment is pounding out "Play At Your Own Risk" by Planet Patrol... :afro: ).

It depends on the type of paint that is splattered.... if it is latex a soft damp cloth and some warm water might work. Otherwise "mineral spirits" might do the trick... I would recommend using a q-tip and trying to stay away from the silk screened lettering. Just be sure to use mineral spirits and not something else that might soften the plastic. Remember it is always best to try it out on a small section you don't see, like the bottom or inside of the battery box.

I am sure other members will have lots of other suggestions too!

Depending on the surface and the location....a guitar pick works great for removing paint splatter....it's like an artificial finger nail!

:agree: It's always great to have what a soldering instructor used to call "Non-destructive Tools." MCM electronics actually sells plastic ones. I just use wooden bamboo bar-b-q skewers. They work great for taking paint off plastic without damaging it.

:hmmm: Gotta get me some guitar picks...they sound really handy.

hot water will take off a lot of things.
almond oil will also take a lot of things off and not hurt the plastic. most paint can be removed with your finger nail and one thing i will say you should not do is use any kind of solvent. this will damage the plastic. there is a good chance when the paint hit your boombox it was dusty so it most likely wont have adhered overly well.
