In my quest for thinning down I've taken to carrying heavier and heavier radios on my walks.

This got me thinking about actually how portable our radios are.

How about we come up with a little system? Rating a boombox for weight, comfort and battery life.

This is just a bit of fun, but would be cool for people like myself who carry a lot to find out if that when that holy grail arrives I'll be able to use her as intended.

If we rate each of those three aspects out of 10 with 10 being the best, or in the 'weight' case the lightest. Also, the reason I put in weight as separate to comfort is beacuase I do use heavy boxes, but their handles and overall balance has been designed to lessen the weight factor.

Lets see what we can come up with!

Radio W C B

RISING 20/20 10 - 10 - 9
JVC M90 5 - 7 - 7
Lasonic TRC 931 9 - 8 - 8
Lasonic TRC 975 9 - 10 - 10
Sanyo Big Ben 5 - 5 - 7
Toshiba RT-S90 7 - 10 - 8
Sharp GF-9000 8 - 9 - 10
Conion C-100 4 - 5 - 8
Crown CSC-850 10 - 9 - 9 (w/strap)
JVC M70 8 - 9 - 9
Elta/ESC JC-2000 4 - 2 - 4

Theres a start based on the ones I've been carrying over the last few years

Rock On.

First, I want to say YOU ARE AWESOME for strutting your stuff with a classic blaster at your side.

Second I want to say, those radio's listed above are some heavy weights (literally) I can't imagine just cruising the street. Most of the time, it's from the car to the party for me!

Worst to best for me would be

Louder Blaster GPX 990 1 1 1 (36 lbs after mods)
Sharp GF 777z 3 3 3
Lasonic TRC-975/935 5 6 6
JVC RC-838 6 7 8 (Strap is on the way)
Lasonic TRC-920 10 10 10
Realistic SCR-8 10 10 10
Lasonic TRC-918 10 10 10

rick made me miss my 20/20 --that really was/is a great sound-per-pound carry box.......

and chris is cool with the 920-918 and the scr8

i will say -as always - that the aiwa 950 is a 10-10-10-
plus it looks like a briefcase that should be carried around
