If JVC, Sanyo, Panasonic, Sharp, Aiwa, Toshiba, Conion and other boombox manufacturers decided for a short period of time to reissue all of your favorite grails from the 80's, would you want them reissued in their classic form or have the option of customizing them via external colors and speaker choices? My personal choice is customized. As much as I love the original monotone silver of the M70 and those JVC blue speakers the one I customized in white blew it away...but that is my personal opinion...what's yours?? This was designed to have a little fun...and I was sitting in my office at home bored.

i think both your white and maroon jobs look better than the OEM silver
--same with hemiguys black 850
and norms red m70
so - i voted for the customized --

and then --there are lots of boxes that look/seem so factory perfect -
that it would be a detriment to paint or change their cosmetics -

for one example --the big aluminum faceplate on the sanyo 920 -
must always be left STOCK !!! :-)

I lean towards classic but there have been a lot of customs that improved the look of some boxes. For me it's really a case by case kind of thing, some look best in their classic glory.

...I agree with the aluminum faceplate but I would love to see some different colored speaker grills...red grills with white speakers would give it some pop!!

Classic style with newer technology inside, improved sound and multiple media format capabilities.
Kind of what Lasonic did but don't round out the edges and dumb it down with cheesy graphics. and overly simple controls.
I like pointy corners and lots of controls! Oh, and mass, make it feel substantial, heavy is reliable!

that would//'should be a spectacular color combo --

and since few of us will have many 'extra' 920s --
for this experiment --

to photoshop your plan :-)

By scrolling down this thread and paying attention to the left hand side avatars, I think we can see how much more exciting these boomboxes can be with some color and variety. In my opinion, not ONE of the boomboxes on the left looks out of place nor tacky. This is great. I wish we could vote all over again. Silver is great. But when they are all silver, all cookie cutter examples, it does get rather boring after awhile.

I'm definitely one for the custom colour camp.
Apart from the amazing custom jobs done here recently some of my most favourite classics are the ones that have been customised. Graffiti or otherwise. Who wouldn't want a spare C-100F done up the same as the one in Breakin'?
Or this absoloute gem:

I think customising, be it recolouring or graffing or whatever makes your radio your own.
Just like custom cars and such, theres beauty to be had in the original intended design just as there can be in personalising it to your tastes. I plan on doing something one day with one of mine, but I'm going to wait til I've got a double.

Rock On.

I would not buy a painted box. But if I had two of a kind, I would definitely mod one of them.

damn !!! theres me with the blue cap !!!!

i choose the custom , but you know me.

classic as usual.

but yeah id prefer the old tech, lots of resistors, and capacitors, some transistors,

to give that warm sound,

and good old round classic looks...

square and dull ehehhe

id customize them myself later. maybe.

ok its 3:22am here, guess im off to bed.

later.

....don't get me wrong I LOVE classic boomboxes but if given a choice of owning 4 identical models in stale grey or those same models in 4 exciting colors, I choose the latter...but that's what I love about this hobby, everyone has their own way of doing it.

...it's pretty straight forward. I compare this poll to the way we purchase cars. Would you buy the standard model with no options or upgrades, or would you want to customize it to add that personal touch by adding wheels, bigger engine, etc...I was just trying to get a take on how people felt and to have a little fun...I got some real good feedback though...
