so..i got this shell laying around with a powerfull set of Panny RX A-2 speakers.

i reassembled some parts of the original box (a belt-box-aka) and got this:

i also bought a nice, powerfull and very small amp 2 or 3 years ago that'll work for this --

BUT the question is --

I do not have a single idea how to manage the tapedeck-area - i plan to insert a fitting mp3-player in the lower section instead of the keys for the tapecontrols.

now i need something to fill out the big hole - do not really want to insert the old tapedoor since i want it to look quite different to the original box. also thinking about a paintjob, but that's secundary.

sooo -- anyone got a nice idea of what to insert in there?

maybe a lcd? (are there any mp3-LCD-units that could match?)

i hope to get some ideas from your inspirative posts!

what a cool project --
those BIG panny A2s should sound fantastic :w00t:

the easiest // if not the best way to 'fill-in' the door hole -
is with some very cool looking door design from a different box :hmmm: :-)

i once hooked em up with the spare rx-a2's main section while they were sitting in the new shell - and got blown away. i sure will have to fill out the whole box with some insulation to get a better sound.

until now i never thought about using a different tapedoor -- that's what i meant asking for an inspiration. this great place offers so much ideas

WoW, what a great project. I know I would be salivating at this challenge. Floyd too. That tape door area -- stuff a LCD screen in there -- it's perfectly suited. The area where the tape keys are? Use that to install a jack panel so you can have RCA's and video in jack. That way, when you can have Michael Jackson's dance moves going while he's belching his tunes. I would also install a new tuner in there. Coincidentally, I have a bolt box that I'm working on so a modern tuner is the way to go. Since modern tuners are digital, they require very little real estate -- only enough to display the tuner. The rest of the tuner dial can be used for an awesome light show. Maybe spectrum analyzer? Maybe discolite beacon?

that sounds like a plan there

i'll have a look on some of these ideas at my favourite electro-store and discuss some combinations with the technician there.

let's see how it'll work out. for now i need a new battery to power the amp. cant wait to hear the box without using external amps & power-sources.

i had a few conversations about that with ned some years ago -- he was modding some of his boxes with the same/similar amp, built by a guy from the netherlands -- he gave me the advice to use kinda gel-batteries -- dont know their specification exactly atm but they last very long, spend enough power and r rechargeable. the old batterie compartment is ok - enough room to stuff the new batterie and other things in there :)

i need to have a look in my pms on s2g and look for the detailed spec of that battery.

could put a mirror or a tinted mirror to cover the tape deck area for now, and then finish the rest of the box. I dont think anything painted would look as good as a polished piece especially since it is the center piece of a boombox.

a mirror sounds cool too - for a short time i also thought about a mirror-tunnel with LED's so you get the neverending look :-D

-- for the battery , i guess i need a 12V akku with power somewhere between 2400 and 3500 mah. any suggestions? Heard that LiPo-batteries are rather dangerous?

don't plan on using D-cells furthermore for this box.

Can't wait to have some time after work for shopping at my trusted electrical store.
