I have a nice fully working VZ-2000 and was looking for a 2500 to add as we listen to Vinyl almost exclusively at home.

A friend of mine that deals in vintage electronics is always on the lookout for boxes for me. He said he had something for me a few weeks back. I found something be wanted, an Event 20/20 bas monitor for $30 at a garage sale (only 1) so I traded it to him for this vz-2500. It needs a lot of work, only the radio works and needs some cosmetic help.

I hope I can get it back to working order and cleaned up eventually.

Who has fixed these up before?

iv'e done nothing but work on mine
really easy to work on :-D
the whole front case comes off and the turntable stays in place but can be easily removed with or without removing the front case
the deck is dirt simple and easy to re belt .
turntable belts fairly easy to replace .
no where near as complex as the vz 2000.
turntable comes out by removing a few screws and it just pops out or you can leave it in place while you remove the front case from around it .

easy access to all electronic's inside and very well laid out and simple

Thats a relief... There is a very good electronics shop here..I may just get him to fix it if he can. Depending on the cost.

I have never done a restore on a bbx... should you get the insides working first and then work on the cosmetic parts (paint etc) or all at once?

sounds like a good plan , you can always ask them to dust the inside while they have it at the shop and clean the rest when you have it back working .

Great price for sure  although I'm not keen to the looks of the 2500 (IMO). Love the VZ2000 though :-). Good luck!!

I will do that. The picture does not really show it, but the outside is pretty worn/beat/dirty ... more than I prefer anyways. I dont mind some scuffs and marks from age and use ..afterall they were meant to be used and portable. I will do my best to bring it back to the glory days

I have to agree ... After having both now and putting them side by side, the 2000 gets the nod
