Let's play a game of should I get it?

I found a Philips D8734 in a shop in the neighborhood. Everything fine with it except for deck B where a screw seems to be loose. They are asking for 65€ (~85$).
It sounds quite strong and seems to be a high quality boomer but I'm not quite sure if I'm willing to pay the price.

Ey zippy, get it!
You will love it!

If it is in good condition and working, the price is really fair.
Strong sound, 2 servodecks, many connections, massive look....

Only one thing: it is more a stationary unit!
For walking around on shoulder - forget it.
Too heavy and the speakers are only mounted on 2 tiny hooks without locks.

It is the 2nd biggest unit from PHILIPS

I guess you guys convinced me so I'll probably pay the store another visit tomorrow. And let's see if I can lower the price a little bit ;-)

I'd buy it if it was in very good or better condition and local to me but ViennaSound is your man for information on this box.

I voted YES.

That radio is HUGE! :w00t:

Maybe not an all day carrier, but I bet taking it to the beach or park and setting it down would be KILLER!

:agree: The only  at this box is the outdoor quality.
If you don´t glue the speakers on the box, you will never get happy.
The mountings of the speakers are really sh*t :annoyed:

But all other facts are speaking for the box.
I think it is really the best boombox(3piecer) from PHILIPS ever :smooch:

I was totally going to buy it today but I arrived at the store ten minutes after they closed
Kinda sets my teeth on edge, now that I decided to go for it I don't want to wait... well, but have to wait till monday obviously.

Well, now it isn't anymore - got it today :-P

Dumped the price a little, only a few bucks. The store was specialised on old electronics (they've got a minty Panasonic RX-A2 as well, but are asking for 350€) so no much bargaining.

Congrats on the score, she's a beauty.

An RX-A2 at that price is not bad but in minty condition it's sure a worthy purchase if you want one.

Heh, well, kinda convincing when there's noone who says I shouldn't go for it :-D
The shop owner told me everything was fine except tape B. I haven't tried everything out cause this beauty is capable of a lot of stuff like slowing tape B down or fading from tape A to B. That's badass. Really need to get tape B working, record some tapes and play DJ :-D The things I did test - tuner, treble/bass control etc., tape A, line-in, the LEDs - worked perfectly. Also nothing broken or missing, aerial is straight, not even that little plastic thing that keeps the aerial in place when not pulled out isn't broken off. It really is a nice unit.

Thanks and yes, the RX-A2 is worth some money but for that kind of money I'd rather go for a "real" boombox like a Sharp GF-777 or a Telefunken Hifi Studio 1. I do have RX-A2 speakers by the way, got them at another store for 30€. I connected them to my Sanyo C4 but I'm not sure if that's ideal...

:agree: with you Zippy, I would rather spend that kind of money on other things.
The RX-A2 is cool but doesn't do it for me for that kind of money. :nonono:
