Hi all!
I’m new in your great forum and I recently purchase a little Philips D3484 for 20 euros.
I realy like the design, radio working, sounds good, he’s complete.
Here’s the bad part, cassete door is broken but I still have all the little plastic pieces, and the deck not working at all. Buttons are stuck and not activate de mechanism.
I see some videos trying to understand how it works but I’m not seeing everything like that, trying to explain, buttons work from the back to the front and indirectly force the inside buttons from down to up. I have not the technical language sorry :D
Can you help me? Thank you and sorry for my bad english !

Hi,

Without any experience it’s not that easy. Few tips:
1. Get a service manual
2. Make a lot of pictures (of every step)
3. You will find one ore more yellow gears in the mechamism. Search the net for philips yellow gears and you will see what I mean. They have to be replaced.
4. Belts have to be replaced. Clean the parts with alcohol before putting on the belts.
5. Drop of oil to the shaft of the motor

Sometimes you have to rotate the deck by hand to reset the cogs and gears so that when you press the buttons they work properly.

Hello JVC FLoyd thank you!
I make the rotation that you recommanded on the big gear and the mechanism is... alive!
So, the motor seem pretty strong, the belt make some work.
O think the yellowed gear is don’t in his best shape, but still complete.
Now, the buttons still not doing the job correctly, they stuck in when I press them, for exemple when I press play the back plate go to the top, the mechanism is on, when I press stop button, it’s doing nothing. Need to force directly at the botom (little white pieces) with a screwdriver to stop.
I think this guy needs a serious cleaning and a good lubrificarion. Wich products? Magical WD 40?
Someone knows where I can get gears and belts for that model?
Thank you!

Don't use WD-40 on the deck parts cuz it will degrade the plastic and run all over the place you need to use a grease or an oil safe for electronics . Grease is probably your best bet.

They are still functional... are they good enouth for the job? Or it’s absolutly a need to be changed?
I think it’s better to get some new parts, let’s see if I can get 3D printed ones...

Now I know I can save the tape deck, I want to make a good restore of this. Make some paint job, metal grey cause the case isn’t in good shape. Some work to the handle, previous owner make a plastic weld without anu finition. I want to stay in a original foram.

Final step put in a Bluetooth module and a battery pack.

Regards and once again, sorry for my bad english.

Glad to help. 3 things you need:
Bleutooth audio receiver board, ground loop noise isolator and an adjustable power supply. You can find them very cheap on Aliexpress.

Hello all!
Spent some time on my boombox today!! :D
I have the new gears and they are in place.
Don’t tried yet.
I spent most of my time trying to connect a bluetooth board from a old little JBL Go 2 speaker.
I tried to solder directly the wires from the original connection from the speaker of the JBL to the input pin line of my Philips.
Turn on the boombox, work normaly, turn on the JBL board and YES! We have bluetooth sound! Just one problem, the sound is terribly low. :(
Do you think it’s necessary to put an amplifier board on my connection? In my theory the input line just need a simple sound signal and the boombox make the work... I’m wrong? Where is my mistake?
Thank you very much!

Hello,
Sad moment, the sound signal continue sending very low in Bluetooth.
I just made a jack wire to right and left plugs, I plug in the common line enter. Tried with an iPhone and an iPod, same result!
Question, is necessary my wire pre-amplified? Or the board is damaged? Thank you!
Sorry for my interrogations and my bad english.
Best regards,
