I have a Sanyo C777 that is pretty AC sensitive. Some parts of my house it has a horrible crackle/buzz/hum and has a fairly loud hum even in the good areas.

My plan is to convert it to permanent DC power with an old power adaptor.

On battery power it uses 8 D cells for 15v, on AC power the transformer feeds 18v to the main board.

Before I start experimenting does anyone know if the 15v is likely stepped up to 18v on battery power or does the box just run on lower power?

It's plenty loud enough so that would be fine by me.

On batteries, the system will see “true” 12v DC power. On AC, you may be measuring 18v, but that is unregulated and probably sags to 15v or? when loaded.
