It's not a monster or anything, but it's got the look. I bought one of these from baddboybill a couple of years ago as a gift for a friend. When I saw it a couple of weeks ago, I thought it would be perfect for my desk at our new office because the size is perfect. So I scored one really cheap on eBay and thought it would look a lot meaner with black grills. Turned out my hunch was right. I still need to detail the back case and add a line-in, but here is the "before and after" speaker grills.:

It's nothing to really write home about, but it's a cool little piece for the office. It's almost a cross between a mid-size and mini.

At first I was going to say the black grilles made it look like its worth at least $5 more, but after really studying it..the appearance value didnt change at all.. The black does look cleaner though!

There is a Magnavox that I should've bought at the thrift that is same size as that one..It just looked really kool

Yeah - Unfortunately, when I unmasked it, it was still just a little "tone" box.

Yep, I like it better too. Never cared for the color on those panny grills.

The grills were originally supposed to be gray. They're raw plastic, so they've yellowed over the years. I suppose I could have tried a Retro-Brite treatment, but I wanted to see them in black. I'm thinking of Retro-Brite-ing the top panel and painting the rest of the back case in a light-medium charcoal.
The more I paint, the better it sounds. :w00t:
Makes sense, right?

But the old grills are discolored on this unit from age. They have green tint. This is the way they are supposed to look. The one on left is aged the one on right is new. .

In my view the black grills give it a more 'confident' appearance, very sure of itself whilst the silver has more of an air of gentility. Either way, the discoloured grills detract from a handsome machine. Just my pennyworth.

I can't decide! Both look great, it's a hard decision. However, given the fact that they were yellowing, I would haven taken this chance myself. Nice work!

I agree with both of these statements. Worthy effort.
Maybe you should go crazy like a blue or red or green or something.

Blue would be really cool.
