Panasonic SC-UA4 (and SC-UA3) Overlooked Gem?

I'm in Sweden. The Panasonic SC-UA4 (with DAB+ radio, otherwise identical with SC-UA3) is part of Panasonic's URBAN AUDIO line of weirdly designed boomboxes. This one has 300 watts of power and plenty of tweeters.

For some reason it has not been marketed actively in Sweden. NONE of the big retail chains ever sold it. It's shown and described in all its glory on Panasonic's web sites - in Sweden, the U.K., Germany etc.

On the price comparison sites it is sorted under "mobile phone speakers".

I know that the RX-D55 is good, but doesn't have bluetooth - plus it's close to a decade old. I wondered if Panasonic had released anything more updated and current. Yep - the Urban Audio line. With USB stick playback, karaoke ports, bluetooth etc...

So by not being actively marketed it is now almost gone - disappeared. M.I.A.

The SC-UA3 would be easier to find.

At the same time the old bastard RX-D55 is still going strong and is sold in most stores.

So - since I could guess the direction of events, I purchased TWO of these SC-UA4. Just in case, you know. I was pretty sure I would never be able to buy one more for the second floor.

I feel smart. Probably because I am....

Review of the sound?
Hey - NO complaints. ANY kind of music - classical string quartets or electronic bass-heavy freaky music or just main-stream pop. Did I mention Steely Dan's Gaucho?

Anyway - The SC-UA4 came and .... went. THAT is a shame and I put 97% (if not more) of the blame on Panasonic. They make a wonderful product and they just don't give a shite about it.

OK - ONE reason this falls between the chairs is that it is NOT battery operated. Even if it is in classical BOOMBOX size, it can be carried around the park - in SILENCE - until you find some AC...

I love it and find it cool I figured out the smart move to get two while available!

Take care - Gunnar

You talking about this? Looks pretty cool. Bigger than most modern BT speakers, and it has a handle!

Rimmer, life is too darn short. For 135, just go for it. You could always sell it once you get bored of it.

I run on 230V so I'm good. This product (SC-UA4) or it's brother (SC-UA3) are goood! Look cool and sound awesome - just get to know how to set the frequencies and D-Bass in proportion to what you're listening to.

The INTERESTING point I tried to make is WHY Panasonic didn't do anything to promote this product for the true advantages it has.

There is a OPTICAL DIGITAL IN for your TV. 300w Compact Home Theatre - that's what you've got there! Not bad. Unless you live in a huge stadium and need live concert accoustics and 50.000watts per channel or so... :-)
