Well since backlighting has become the "in" thing in boombox modding i decided to do my own LED mod.. lets admit it the puke green backighting on these fantastic boomers is bleh.. since blue is the favorite color of choice and it adds alot of class to a Ghetto BB.. lets do it on a 90's classic.. the rare Panasonic RX-CT990.. which is basically a RX-DT680 minus the CD player and it replaces the CD OUT with true AUX IN RCA jacks.. i already modded the speakers.. (3 way instead of the normal 2 way speakers) anywho.. lets see some pics!
comparing the original LED block to the new one.. as you can see.. i couldnt find surface LED's exactly like the ones in the normal LED board.. so i did some serious research and came up with these..

cheap.. and defused.. took a chance on how bright they may be.. i got lucky.. there perfect..
here's a pic of both before and after.. as you can see.. you cant mount the new LED's flush.. dont try.. you will break em.. you need 8 total.. broke one trying to force it.. in the end it worked perfectly as pics further on down show..
next you see them pictured behind the LCD.. takes a little wiggling and you have to unsnap the LCD from the frame just slightly to fit them behind..
now with the unit back together lets fire it up!
OK! the good thing is.. it's not as bright as you may think.. it's just perfect.. here the last pic.. using my Blackberry Playbook to play internet radio..
sooo. try it! wasnt very difficult.. and no modding the main circuit board was needed.. voltages are spot on!
