Hello, I'm new here, and I just got hold of a Panasonic RX CT900 that works wonderfully well (after major cleaning). I have cleaned the tape mechanism, and everything I could access without opening it up. I will open it later to solder in a bluetooth chip (to the aux in), and then I will clean the chassi as well.

I am wondering if you could help me with how I can restore some of the plastics. The right speaker 'lock' is broken (small plastic tabs have broken off). How can I repair this so that I can attach the speaker without it falling off?

This is all very modern for me as I usually restore radiograms from the 30's and 40's, but I do also enjoy late 80s early 90s music haha. Also should the lcd on this model be backlit?

Thank you in advance,
Karolina

That's a great box usually the Speakers need re-foaming worth it because they are fantastic drivers. Don't think the LCD is backlit. You might have to bolt the speaker on to the main unit.

Purchase a bottle of acrylic adhesive, it's a solvent that creates a thin film of molten plastic on each surface, so when they're mated, they merge like a weld. After a while it evaporates and leaves a solid bond. No glue involved.

Yes it is indeed marvelous. It doesn't seem like it needs re-foaming yet at least :) The issue regarding the plastics is that I do not have the broken tabs as the damage was done by the previous owner. I would need to recreate them somehow..

you hit the nail on the head, I have two of these units and both of them have speakers that need refoaming. the the foam for the drivers is just turning to dust.
