Hi Guys,

I've been on the look out lately for another National/Panasonic RX series to join my RX-C45. I've always liked the feather touch, auto reverse Panasonic decks and found one in a National RX-C48F cheapy I found locally. This unit is fully functional but a little tatty with various marks etc on the top and front facia of the unit.
It has Dolby and TPS (blank section of tape search) which works quite well. The seller included 22 mix tapes in a crappy case as a 'bonus' :-O  - the tapes are all cactus but they proved handy for testing purposes.

According to the included original Operating Instructions, it's a 15V, (10D cell) unit producing a quite reasonable 12.5W x 2 RMS. :-O When you consider this unit is only slightly longer than my C45, it packs a reasonable punch considering its' size.

It's nice and bassy like the C45 but with the slightly larger drivers (up from 10cm to 12cm) and bigger amps, it certainly has more horsepower.
The deck has a quick response and isn't too noisy either. ;-)

Overall, it sounds good, isn't too heavy or too big and with the feather touch deck, feels a quality unit.
I haven't seen any mention of this model here at Boomboxery.com so I guess the old girl is official now! :-D

James... :-)

Good job James...i saw that one kickin around.
I had never seen the model before this either.

I have a RX-C53...and went to look on the back of it to see what power rating it was....but the plate is not there!
I noticed on one of my other nationals that the name plate came off in my hand. I suspect the glue they used wasn't meant to last 30+ years.

Hi Scotty,

Yes, I saw it for sale a week ago and didn't jump right away. I saw nobody else wanted it so I decided to save the old girl. The name plates on this unit and my C45 were both on the bottom of the unit. Maybe units that have been exposed to moisture from underneath might loose their labels. :hmmm:

Great looking radio!! Are those the original drivers in it? Looks sinister with black woofers. Great score because its something I've never seen either. A real beauty. I'd dib on it but your way out there for me.
