Greetings!

This is my first time posting on this forum and I’m looking for a little help. I recently picked up a Panasonic RX-5010 from an estate sale that is in impeccable cosmetic condition. The radio does work, but a belt in the tape deck was broken. Decided to take it apart and clean it real good while replacing the belts. Unfortunately one belt completely melted and was a gooey mess on the circuit board. I also noticed that the power supply seemed to get a little hot at one point discolored the surrounding plastic in the case. There was also a fair amount of “soot” inside the case as well. Is this normal or something I should be concerned about? I’ll post pictures below. Pictures are after I washed the case.

Thank you!

Got it all cleaned up and replaced the belts. Everything on it works beautifully; however, the left speaker is blown. Anyone have any recommendations on a replacement speaker? Might as well replace both of them while I’m in there?

If it fits, I use cheap replacement car stereo speakers you can find at any auto parts store. I order chrome dust caps from a China seller on eBay and wham, you have new period correct looking speakers.

Before you start replacing, do two things.

1) Plug in some headphones and see if the channel is out there too

2) Swap the speakers and see if the problem follows the "bad" speaker

Thanks for the fast responses! I did as suggested and plugged in my headphones and the problem did in fact follow. Perhaps “blown” is the wrong word here? The left channel is much more quiet than the right channel. I have to set the balance far left for it to equal out, but then the whole boombox seems quiet in relation to the volume. Does anyone have any ideas for this? I cleaned the pots before I put it back together which I would think would cause this problem. I will admit I don’t know a lot about boomboxes and am just starting out.
