Hi all,

I'm fairly new to boomboxery and attempting to fix up a not-quite-as-described unit I received from ebay heh.
The radio works fine but the tape deck plays tapes fairly slowly.
Here's what I've done so far:

1) Replaced the European plug on the electrical cord to a US one (done before I discovered the issue since I don't have a European outlet)
2) Full clean of components including the tape deck elements such as the pinch rollers and playback head
3) Replaced the belt with a new one
4) Demagnetized the playback head
5) Adjusted the motor speed. Small changes to large changes, doesn't look like this is having any effect.

Anyone have any additional recommendations?

Not knowing much, are there differences in voltage from Europe to US that would affect speed? Does the motor itself need to be replaced?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

It's running slow because you're only giving it 110V. European models need 220V.
The receiver and amp circuits will still kinda work, like your batteries are getting kinda low.

Some radios have a 110v/220v switch, but I don't think minis generally have one.

Try popping in some fresh batteries and see how it runs

Awesome, thanks. That's probably exactly what it is. Well, at least I cleaned it up (it's actually kind of cathartic heh). I'll give it a shot!
