Painting a chassis?

So is it possible to paint your average gray (i.e. Panasonic) chassis and keeping it looking like it would've been originally? Is there a standard color that a lot of them use or any place on the board where that might've been discussed?

Maybe take the Panasonic to a hobby store and see if they have anything that will match it.
