Hi again,

I want to fix my GF-9696 up again and according to that I need to find a solution for a disgusting oxidated battery compartment
I have heard that there is some way to get it out of there and clean again with a base that washes it out...
Probably cleaning the contacts is enough?
Should I bring it to some repair shop or can I do it myself without having the risk of idiocy destrying it  ?

Thanks for your help, I might not be the first one with a dirty battery compartment

In the U.S., we have some stuff called CLR - calcium, lime and rust remover. I used it a few times and the stuff worked pretty good. You need the equivalent of that, but perhaps theres something else someone here can recommend.

hi max -
i have brought every foul battery compartment back to life
without any acid , etc solutions --

just a fingernail file with sandpaper on it

Are you serious??? I have that stuff under the sink right now. I've never thought of using it for that! :dunce: How well does it work? Do you get back to shiny metal?

I don't know about "shiny metal", but it'll definitely take the rust off and get down to bare metal - especially if you use some kind of brush.

Go to your local auto supply store and buy some battery terminal cleaner spray...it foams up and will safely clean the worst oxidation right down to the metal...no scrubbing required... :-D

I've used naval jelly on the terminals and they clean up pretty good, especially if they are rusty.
