Take a good hard look at this:

^ I know exactly what you're thinking right now,,, AND YOU ARE DEAD WRONG! ;-)

Before reading further, check out the original opening to the Gundam anime series.

When it comes to Japanese animation (and live action Japanese kid shows), I grew up watching Speed Racer, Battle Of The Planets, Ultraman, StarBlazers (called Space Battleship Yamato in Japan), Tranzor Z (called Mazinger Z in Japan), Voltron, Transformers... Admittedly, I've never heard of Gundam until I started collecting anime figures last year. Gundam's been around for a long time (30 years) so I don't know how the hell I missed it. Maybe it wasn't shown in the U.S.A. at the time of it's initial run - I don't know... :hmmm: :-/

Anyway, this is the stuff that every boy growing up watching shows like that dreams about:

Great pics (and more info) coming soon!

I kept waiting for that thing to take off and start walking! That would have been bad-ass!!

Oh, and StarBlazers is still the best anime series to this day. (IMHO) :afro:

You and I both. Too bad it's only gonna be up for about 2 months and then torn down! :'-(

WOW! That thing is HUGE!!! I wonder how long it took to construct? Looks very detailed. :-D

I'm not even sure if they've completely finished it. Read about some of it's construction here: http://splashpage.mtv.com/2009/06/11/li ... t-in-japan

I imagine that in about 200 years from now (maybe 100), the technology will exist for something like that to happen, especially if you imagine where we were 200/100 years ago. ;-)

That's stupid. If it's just going to be up for 2 months, why waste the money?

They should relocate it...to my backyard. But for real, they should relocate it. You know how awesome that thing would look in Tokyo?

Godzilla would just come out and destroy it. :-P

What one of those Japanese guys REALLY needs to do is build a giant-sized Soundwave Decepticon from the old cartoon (not the new POS Soundwave from Transformers 2 movie).

Man, are you serious? The Power Rangers originated in 1993. Gundam's been out since 1979. ;-)

I agree with you about that shot with Tokyo in the background... I wish I was there to see that! :-O

My son being a Power Rangers fan and I of Mobile Suit Gundam, G-Force, and of course Star Blazers and many others thought this was way cool.

As a matter of fact, I had a Sega Saturn and Dreamcast and used to play Gundam, Virtual ON and other games of the genre based on anime.
