Just arrived at the Chateau Ghetteaux - the 'walkman' we bought with money from our first job after high school. Was $24.95 and tax back in the '80s. Paid $26 with tax and shipping off eBay...

Works, but we'll have to get around to changing the belts... Which is a remarkable feat as we'd smasherated our first one within a few years for not functioning. Wish we'd saved the belt clip - not that this isn't going to be a shelf rider from now on...

A bit of an update. We went and bought a second unit for the belt clip. It had broken internals so we'd have no feels letting it go to scrap. To our alarm, our first Stereomate wasn't playing in stereo. We tried swapping the volume/balance know but no luck. even tried swapping a similar knob from another duff stereomate recorder. Nope. So... we went and bought a third unit. Nope. Happily the fourth time was the charm and got a mostly full-working (it'll play and rewind to an extent but it would like it if we replaced the belts at some point.) Paid way more than we should've but whatevs...
