I have been puting WANTED flyers out and about for some time now and even though the flyer says 'boomboxes' people would ring my with all kinds of home stereos or transistor radios etc.I definately didnt mind, if people where going to move stuff on i was always interested in what they may have.
So I recieved a phone call about 2 weeks ago from a guy who said he had
a few box fulls of radios and would i be interested ? Of course i was.
When i arrived sure enough there was 3 boxes bigger than i could lift full of mostly
transistor radios but i could also make out a few cassette players too.
We did the deal and i headed home with the lot.
I used to have a fairly large collection of transistor radios but i have scaled it down a lot now.
I was running out of room and decided that boomboxes would be my main item of collection.
So most of the radios i will be selling on but a few i will keep.

Here are some nice 'old school' stereo cassette recorders that came with the lot.

A very nice National Panasonic with independant Left and Right volume control.

This nice Sanyo with a variable wide control.
I hadnt seen this before on any other Sanyos ??
At maximum setting it creates an almost echo kind of sound.

Also a Sony CF 550A

I thought when i picked it up that it had batteries in it for sure
because of the weight. I was close !
I have to say that it is actually a very heavy unit even without
batteries.

Wow. Success varies depending on location. You are one lucky dude.

Thanks Superduper. I wish everyone here the same kind of luck. You know whats strange is i can put flyers out in an area and get no calls at all then i happen to be in that area a few months later and put flyers out again and get some very interesting calls ! It pays to stay on it, and i cover a lot of ground too, A LOT of ground

Hey AZA, I have that same Sanyo M9950, but mine is different from yours on the top. Mine doesn't have the "SSS Stereo Radio Cassette Recorder". Instead, it has the "stereophonic" symbol and "Variable Stereo Sound Space Control".

Nice Aza, that must have been a blast.

Both the Panasonic and Sanyo look really nice. The Sanyo is an Interesting box, looks a bit like my 9902 with a few upgrades.

I had wondered what the SSS stood for on mine :hmmm: It makes no reference to 'Stereo Sound Space'
like yours FD. Now i know :-) Very cool, thanks for sharing

Great story and wonderful '70's-style boomboxes! They do have a charm all their own, don't they? Single VU meters, separate L and R volume controls, black/grey color, raised tuning dials. Kind of primitive, when you think about the larger, fancier, more powerful boxes the next decade would bring, but definitely "a foretaste of the feast to come"!

I don't have many old school boxes in my collection, mostly because they're hard to find (especially in good condition), but here's one I like a lot: an Ambassador 1028D. Still working and old school all the way!

Exactly  and thanks for sharing yours ! Love the red FM tuning light.

When looking for 'Boomboxes' these shouldnt be overlooked as an 'old radio', they can be
surprisingly heavy, very well built and can sound pretty good too.
