Ok Fatdog, I've read your interesting and informative booklet on replacing belts in the Sharp GF-777. My GF-808 has arrived from Japan, but belts are an issue, is the process pretty much the same, and are the belts easily enough purchased from somewhere? Can you recommend somewhere for a belt kit? I guess I have to buy 2.

and just making sure;

Japanese GF-808 = Rest Of The World - GF -555?

15 boxes by Christmas? I accept!

As far as belts go, here are my favorites in order:

Here are some pics of when I disassembled my old GF-666. I would imagine the GF-555 being quite the same internally. These pictures will show you what to expect. Getting to the cassettes will need a lot of time; there are a lot of screws that have to be removed and connectors unplugged.

Thank you for that Uncle Ed and Fatdog, but after viewing the video below, Gluecifer thinks that it's a take up drive problem.
The FFWD and REW works perfectly on both decks, but it also has the problem as seen below on both decks. I would appreciate some input before I tear the box apart and royally stuff something up. :-/ :-/ :-/

Thanks.

Seems to me you are going to have to rebuild those capstan needle bushing too. That'll probably involve lots of alcohol and q-tips, and some hobby silicone fuel tubing from your hobby shop.

Yep, you are still going to have to take it apart. ;-) You can't replace the capstan tire/needle bushing without disassembling the cassette mechanism. :-/
