So I've been lurking on the site for a few weeks now and I decided to officially introduce myself. My name is Howie and I'm totally new to the hobby. I'm a 38 year old history teacher that grew up in Hollywood in the 80's and almost everyday walked on Hollywood Blvd wishing I could have one of the cool Boomboxes that were in the store fronts of the various electronics stores along the boulevard. Well it took me a long time but I finally got one. About a month ago I bought a Rising 20/20 off of Craigslist for $200. It was in good working condition but it was dirty as hell. I've spent countless hours taking 30 years of grim off of it. And although I'm not really handy, I was able to open it up and also clean it and lube all the connections from the inside. And when I put it back together it still worked! That may not sound like much, but considering that my expertise is in lesson planning, lecturing and motivating teenagers, that was quite an accomplishment for me. I'm kinda hooked now and although I'm not planning on starting a big collection, I'd love to attempt to make other old beat up boomboxes look and sound better. I'm really impressed with the work and knowledge that is on this site. I've contacted a few members regarding issues with my Rising and they have been so helpful. I look forward to contributing to the site and learning from all of you.
