Heyya, =)

Just got my newly re-edged woofers for my M90. I painted them a nice deep blue with some plastic paint & then handed them off to my guy here in town. His services are a bit pricey but for the experience & work involved, very reasonable. Take a look:

They seem a bit stiff as glued so we'll see after the break-in period. I chose an edge-over refit instead of edge-under for a more finished & even look. Plus, the edge being over the cone makes for a stronger bond, overall.

Man, my fingers are crossed. I have to wait 'til I can take the chassis in to get 1 toggle fixed, then it's fully working with all original drivers. I really hope the stiff edge surrounds loosen up as they get broken in. I want to wait a good week before firing it up so the glue sets fully with no chance of separation.

Cheers,

The surround replacement buy the professional is "ultimate perfection".

What a job! :jawdrop: It looks flawless!
The blue color selection is the best! :hooray: :hooray: :hooray:

That is the best blue color i've ever seen for cones.

It is really hard to get the paint near the dust caps rims perfect.

Touch up with an artists brush can make it almost near perfect.

Honestly, I really like the black surround on the blue woofer. I can't wait to see them installed too ;)

Did you buy the surrounds direct from Superduper?

fantastic work!

i think they will sound great , at least the m90 has the power to push them even if they are a bit stiff till they break in , i would just be careful because those cones are not very thick and too much resistance from the suspension could send the voice coil right through the cone and leave a big ugly wrinkled ring right in the middle of the speaker. i like the surrounds and they are done correctly and with the right type so it should sound awesome.

Yup, they are Norm's offering on Analog Alley & so far so good. A bit stiff but sound good so far so we'll have to see how they sound once they break in. I'm using volume at 1-2 right now to give them a really light burn-in. In a couple of days, I'll give it some decent bass tracks to check it out more thoroughly. *fingers crossed*

Thanx again to SuperDuper for having offered this solution to so many M90 owners who will face the dreaded edge-rot.

Cheers,

Looks great bro!!
Thanx man, :-D

It's so hard to wait a good week for the glue to set before crankin' it up but I'm gonna do the right thing since this is the end-game as far as the restoration goes. The flaky switch is also fixed. Cost me a small fortune but it is fully functional now & the deck is velvet smooth & whisper quiet. I've been listening to tapes on her all day, with low volume & it sounds really good. Still have to break in the surrounds but already a much better kick-drum sound than the replacements I was using before. Once they burn in properly, I think Norm is right. The edge surrounds are a good match & I highly recommend anyone to have them done before the edge rot gets too advanced.

The surround work is top notch! And they are proper to the originals as the they have a more "original look". Paper surrouns are always a biotch to rplace as if you use typical foam surrounds it take away from the familiar look. Heck you could have colored them blue to match the cones. I guarantee you the non-discerning eye would not have known better. :-D

plastic paint. Did you spray or brush? What is the name of the paint. I was thinking of blue myself for the 1000 replacements :)

It's auto interior trim paint for plastic interior parts so the paint will flex well & hold to the poly-film coating on the M90 drivers. It is a spray paint...you have to tape off the parts you don't want sprayed & stay away from painting the ribbed edges or the speaker will be too stiff & the paint will crack in the edges.
