Hi,
Just wanted to say 'hi'

I'm getting drawn into these old sharp boomboxes and turntables. I have just got a sharp 3000 (which I was advised against but did anyway :-/ and was lucky enough to find a helpful guy on AliExpress who put together a collection of belts so with any luck I will be starting that soon. Cosmetically its nice, just not working properly.

e.g the turntable, as with most , does not spin and the tape deck is a bit lethargic.

When its open what spray is best for contacts and general cleaning? I am used to using brake cleaning fluid or contact spray (in old vehicles) but possibly there is something else I might be advised to consider ?

Bar that I will keep posting on progress and my search for a VZ2000 which I might get lucky with someday. I picked up a very nice zx80 as well the other day :-)

Hi well done on your new project I use specialist contact cleaner from wd40 it's quite cheap and readily available and ipa as a cleaner degreaser.
I've just completed a vz3500 and now sounds terrific what a nightmare though it was i hope yours is up and running soon.

Absolutely do not use brake cleaner, and furthermore, I would avoid WD-40 as well. I once used WD-40 as a lube, some dripped onto the front cabinet and all of the chrome on the ring around the speakers essentially vaporized immediately. It was a huge regret and I considered that boombox a total loss for me. Clean the electronics portion with an appropriate electronics cleaner such as Deoxit and the cabinet and the rest, use simple soap and a small paint brush works wonders. Obviously, let dry completely before attempting to operate.
