Been interested in getting a golden era boombox ever since I took up stereo building as a “quarantine project” back in 2020. I never actually pursued anything because everything I found was either junk or way more than I could justify spending. I began seriously pursuing a boombox a few months ago, and began obsessing over it until a few days ago when I found a very vague post on FB marketplace accompanied by a few photos of models I couldn’t even make out. Seller told me he had 19 he’d sell for $500. I had to pay a friend $200+gas to drive from southern Ohio to Michigan for me, but it all worked out.

These are all in immaculate condition, all working perfectly. Dude did a lot of work on them but apparently over the years needed the storage space back. He was very helpful, and very generous. He threw in a big box of sealed blank tapes, and included a handful of power cables too. I’m very grateful for the accommodations he made for me.

I don’t have the means to keep all of these, and I need to recoup the $800 I spent to obtain them, so I’m forced to sell some of them. At this point, it’s very difficult to decide which I want to keep, as the more expensive ones will help me recoup my money, but I obviously want the best models out of the lot.

i haven’t had time to really play with all of them yet, although I’m surprised by how much I love the early models from the 70s (2 Panasonic and a JVC) I think I almost have to keep the Rx-5150, since it came with its original box and works so perfectly. It’s the only one I’ve really messed with so far and I really enjoy it.

thanks for looking

That double deck Sears and that Panasonic RX 5025 are sweet sounding boomboxes and both built very well.
