My buddy has an estate sale hauling, scrapping company and from time to time I stop by his storage units. On this trip I found a Sanyo m9994. I just spent an hour or so cleaning it up. Plugged it in and everything works! Even the dial light. Best 20 bucks I think I’ve ever spent

You started your collection with a high-end unit. Congratulations and welcome to the forum from a Sanyo-addicted

Man, I love those. Great start.
If you ever come across another one holla at a brother. I'm partial to later 90s type boxes but i would not turn ny nose down at a Sanyo M9994 or JVC M90. They are beautiful.

And welcome.

So I’ve found a few issues. Tape deck seems to play for a second or two and then shuts off and starts to eat the tape and the rwd button gets stuck/caught up when trying to release it. Also some nice crackle in the volume adjust knobs.

can anyone point me in the direction of where I can by knob contact cleaner (or whatever you guys use) and the appropriate belts for the tape deck.

I’ve watched a couple of Teddy Hashee’s videos on repairing the belts and what not and I’m on the fence as to wether I should attempt this or find a Pro.

Thanks,

Max

You can check out this link for the sizes: https://boomboxery.com/forum/threads/sanyo-m9994-belts.26590/
You can get them from various places including turntableneedles.com.
As far as the cleaner, most use Deoxit brand but there are others if you search.
This isn't the easiest deck to work on but it's doable if you're patient and take lots of pictures as you disassemble it.
I'd completely clean and lubricate the deck.
I've refurbished two of these and removed the deck completely from the chassis to make it easier to work on (again, take pics).

For $20, it's worth the money ($30+/- for the belts), time and effort to get it working again.
