I am a new boombox enthusiast. My friend and old housemate found an old National (not sure of the model) on the side of the road and we had a friend who was able to fix the small faults it had and it sounded so beautiful. So I thought, why would I want some ugly modern disposable digital portable sound system when old boomboxes are so groovy and timeless and made to last? As long as it has a line in it's still a viable technology.
Anyway, I bought myself a Sharp GF-8585 and my friend and I went halves in a GF-777 we found on eBay. We just couldn't resist, it's such an amazing machine! She and I are both roller-girls so the 777 will be ridiculously awesome for taking out when we're skating around car parks...
Both of us are very good with technical things, but we don't have the know-how to restore everything ourselves. I've been reading through this forum and it seems like an invaluable resource. I'd really appreciate any advice in regards to cleaning and detailing the exterior of the units and also help on what the possible causes of the few electrical issues we have. I would feel more comfortable taking my gear in to be fixed if I have some idea of what they will be doing. I have friends that are good resources, but I thought I would just reach out to the Boomboxery community anyway. I love looking through all the wicked boxes!
I'm giving my Sharps a basic clean for now and working on a list of faults so I'll post questions soon, and some photos of us in our roller gear and our bbxs!
