:-) I got a New Neighbor just moved in the other day next door, nice folks husband wife 2 little kids and a chiuaha dog.
The husband and I have become freinds,he is another bbx enthusiast(i told him of this site,we'll see if he joins :-/ ) He Also shares my enthusiasm for classic cars,he invited my kids and me over yesterday for a bbq ,which was nice. I brought my Lasonic 920 to jam some tuneskys and he really really liked it!! (Who wouldn't! :-P )
Well here's the dilemma,he offered me $300 for my lasonic he has a nice modest collection, nothing as nice and nothing i would consider trading for,i don't want to offend him,but he's grinding me 4 times since yesterday,as much as i need the cash,i want to keep the lasonic. I thought of saying nah,i gotta getr at least 5 bills, but that for sure would piss him off,and i don't want to turn a freind into an enemy! Any Thoughts,? I think i'll just say straight up i don't want to sell it,but may offer something else? Suggestions always appreciated guys.  :-)

well i would do just and tell him i do not want to sell mine for sentimental reasons but if he joins and there maybe one of us here that might be willing to offer a lasonic if we have it avalible for sell

:agree: with monchito. The 920 isn't so rare that you can't find one on eBay from time to time, but if you really don't want to sell it, suggest that he join and ask here. He might even get a better deal than he expected. Just tell him to stay away from Ira.

that sucks. i say, just tell him in a sincere sort of way that you wish you could sell it to him but can't because:

a) it took you forever to find the childhood favorite since it's rare
b) a fellow forum member found it for you as a gift
c) you bought it from a fellow forum member who was hard up for cash and promised to only sell it back to him

if the guy can't buy into those, he's not a very good neighbor/friend. and if his dog sh*ts in your flower bed you'll know what's up.

I go for the honest approach, too. He's not much of a friend (or neighbor, for that matter) if he can't understand your attachment to your box. But I don't see anything wrong with softening the blow a little but by telling him that you'll keep an eye out on eBay and the for-sale section of the board. While you're at it, suggest that he also get on the 'net (if he isn't already) and do those things himself. Remind him that he might be surprised and find way more than he ever imagined. On the other hand, if he's too lazy to put time and energy into his own pursuit, then, despite what he tells you, assume he really doesn't want the box very much.

Finding specific boomboxes is hard work, and requires lots of time and effort, as I'm sure you know. You'll do him no good whatsoever (and you'll be setting a bad precedent) (who knows what he'll want from you next?) by being his shortcut to a good collection.

P.S. I hate "friends" who pester me for stuff.

I had the same dilemma once.
My Brother wanted my M-70.
So if you re feeling bad about not wanting to give up yours ( which you shouldn't)
Help by putting him in the right direction .
Maybe it can be some thing you guys can do together.
It can be fun and can also make you better friends.
I wish I had a neighbor that was into boomboxes, that would be sweet.
At least you will have someone close by to share your hobby with.

For years, I wished I could connect with someone who collected Panasonic R-8 radios (colorful mini-table radios), so I could share information and experiences. Not long ago, at a Michigan Antique Radio Club annual "Extravaganza," I ran into a fellow Michiganian who liked R-8's as much as I did, and who had some of the same questions and observations I had. Finally, I thought, a collecting pal! We began to correspond by email and occasional phone calls.

This "pal" ended up competing with me for everything I tried to buy on eBay, was jealous whenever I found something he didn't have, and constantly tried to talk me out of the rarities in my collection.

Be careful what you wish for.

Jerad you should have taken a box over you diddn't value  you know next time, im always getting rid of boxes most of the ones i get shot of i give away but there only the off cuts the boxes i never use. Perhaps you could show him some other boxes the ones you are planning of getting shot of but take them over that way it might cure his itch and you may make some money in the prossess,

be straight up with the guy. if hes your friend he will understand.
tell him the extra two hundred bucks might not seem like a lot for him but for you right now the difference between three bills and five bills is eight bags of groceries and you need to eat.
theres time to be generous and i think that this is the time for him to be generous.

Don't do it :nonono: What does it say about a man when he will let $400 go for a box than buy one else where, for $100 on ebay you can get a nice mint 920,or at a flea for $5-$20 tops I have seen some in my time and I'm only 19. He doesn't sound too bright and I don't even know him, he probably couldn't tell the difference between a Crown 950F and Crown 950L

:-) Thanks for the suggestions guys, all exc! as i expected,we hung out tonite, and finally came to an understanding re;The 920 no sale! Some of the older s2goers will remember this was my deli pals gift to me,from sal the deli man, before he moved to greece,no way i'm selling the 920 sentimental,my fav lasonic and a top five fav.
I did exactly suggest to join here, and try cl and ebay. We'll see. On another note i'll be cking in a little more sparingly,ck my thread on att isp is sucky in off topic, they are down AGAIN! I am now using a single computer and have to use dial up.  It's really horrible,i had it out with at&t and sorry to say jt,they truly do suck,i'm donew,it's just gotten ridiculuos, looks like i'll be switching to comcast soon, will try to ck in as often as dumb dial up permits,it's slower then molasses in wintertime. :nonono: |-) :-/ :-D

Good suggestions and I agree that I'd tell him it's not for sale for sentimental or whatever reason but offer him some information like this site that may help him find a 920. If you have other boxes you'll sell you can certainly present that to him, who knows he may like something else you offer even better.

I just had a conference call with my team, and we were all bitchin' to some degree about the landline side. You don't owe me any apologies for your DSL not working properly. If they can't get their asses in gear, then they (we) deserve to lose your business. Personally, I never bought into DSL. I prefer cable all the way. I highly recommend it. Do whatcha gotta do!

sorry to hear about the dsl probs in florida. it sure can be frustrating these days without the internet. i've had at&t dsl out here in cali since it came out though. never a prob. i think it's been down a whole 2 days in 9 or so years. can't complain. power outages bring it down more than anything and that's only because i don't have the router plugged into my ups. windows xp sp2 can make a dsl connection unstable and i've noticed that using wep keys on my linksys network can intermittently drop the connection on devices accessing it wireless. i'm not saying don't dump your dsl. like jaetee said, do whatcha gotta do. especially if they can't get their sh*t together. but checking on some small network related issues might make your days before the switch to cable i little less miserable.
