I saw this over at S2G thought I'd share over here.

Its a new boombox that came out thats trying hard to be a lasonic.
Innovative technologies Model # ITBB-1980i

I went to take a look at it today.
It's alot smaller than you would think. and its construction isnt that good. the case feels sturdy, but the controls are very shaby. Its very light as well. the speakers look like 3" max.
Unfortunatly I wasnt able to plug it in, there were no outlets where they had this displayed. The people that worked there were staring at me wondering why the hell I was taking it out of the box.
The cool thing about it is that you can digitally record off mp3 players and FM radio. and save it to a SD card. but thats about it.
Save your hundred bucks and use it towards an Altec Lansing or Kaboom if your looking for something new.

Eww don't like it at all.
It's kind of a shame that some are still trying to cash in on poor quality build and style while trying to maintain the proper boombox style that we all know and love. Giving your hard earned cash for this to me is a slap in the face of a proper blaster.

Thanks Z I wasn't aware of this one.
It looks like a cheap attempt at classic styling, nice try but they better go back to the drawing board and give it a few more inches on the dimensions and add at least 5" speakers.

Well, I do at least like the fact that it doesn't have a bunch of cheezy stickers and whacked out design all over it. Despite it's small size, I think it looks A LOT better than the Lasonic i931.

If it's that small, it probably costs more to ship from China or Taiwan than it did to actually make them.

But, if it sounds like a decent mini, I'd consider getting one for my wife to take to work so she has something to plug her iPhone into. Oh wait.... maybe I'll just give her my Panny RX-F9 and have her use the aux-in... :-P

We'll probably be seeing these in wannabe-hip commercials and sit coms starting next week.

This is crapola in a square shape.

You can get it for free in the smallest room in your house, different shape.

It has potential. Put some good sized speakers in there and maybe it might sound better. At least there finally appears to be an attempt to go back and capitalize on retro looks.

But guys.... let's be realistic. You aren't going to find the same type of quality today that went into the classics of the late '70's. The cost to produce something like that today would be extremely prohibitive. An M9994 or M70 back in the day could cost from $300 to $500. Translate that to today's $$'s and who's gonna buy it? Heck, if we backtrack to yesteryears $$, we would STILL be griping about the cost. What's $100 in todays dollars back in the late '70? $20? I say, THAT's a good deal.

So if we all ignore this boombox, then it just confirms to the manufacturers that there is no demand for retro styled boomboxes. No wonder no one seems to want to produce one styled after the good 'ol years. I'm just saying, look at it from the manufacturers perspective.

That is the NEW YANKEE STADIUM of ghetto-blasters!! Looks awesome from far away, but until you get up close . . Who do they think they're kidding?

PS Master-Z what you are posing with definitely qualifies as "THE" authentic Yankee Stadium of boomboxes. :-D Just don't let anyone try to demolish that one!

Manufacturing costs and technologies have drastically reduced the cost to produce electronics in the last 30 years so you really can't say a $300 box from the 80's would cost $1500 now because the 1 to 1 relationship doesn't exist. Look at the Kaboom, JVC sold that for $300 for 10 years and still do with a slightly degraded version, The shape of the package is all that would have to change to make a Kaboom into a classic designed stomping boombox for $300. I for one would rather spend $200 to $300 on a cool new classic style boomer than $100 for a new classic style boomer turd.

True, the amp and woofers are good quality. But have you looked at the cassette mechanism for the kaboom? The entire mechanism weighs all of 3 ounces.

True we could get picky but my point was simply that a good quality boomer can be manufactured at reasonable prices it's just nobody wants to do it. R & D probably isn't much different between a cheap boomer or an expensive boomer but the world we live in now is one of intense bean counting and profit maximizing greed.

Has anybody noticed Breyers Ice cream went from 2 quarts about 5 years ago to 1.75 quarts then a few years ago it was cut to 1.5 quarts, that's 25% less product that just a few years ago but they still sell it for the same price. That's just one of countless examples where a good product is sacrificed for the sake of a few more dollars in the CEO's pocket.

Municipalities do it too! My fair city of Stamford CT has foregone replacing a 150' fishing pier destroyed by a hurricane 5 years ago in order to convince Trump to build a luxury condo tower here! Our fireworks were cut "due to budget problems" Yeah we know where the money went and continues to go - into the politicians' pockets!

As for boomboxes, this is probably how our children - and their's - will view our obsession:

That construction and detail wasn't cheap! And will never be retailed again - until mfgs wake up and learn satisfied customers are more important than profits and are what generate profits in the first place.

The i931 was $135....and at least you get a radio of proper dimensions. As much as I appreciate the idea, it sucks they are going at it from the CHEAPEST end possible!

This blows!
