Hello boomboxers,

Getting into retro gear lately and found this forum. I remember a roommate in the Navy back in 1979 had a killer boombox but I don't remember the make/model. It had VU meters, separate woofers/tweeters and I think was grey/black with silver highlights. It was probably close to the top model of that brand. Don't remember much else except that he said don't put it any higher than 3 or the barracks supervisor will come and confiscate it. I know that's not much to go on but any ideas which model that might have been???

Any other info you could remember would help.... single or dual cassette decks? Tuner on the top or bottom? Tuner knob on the front or side? Sliders or knobs to control the volume, bass, treble, balance etc?

oh, and :hi:

Hey thanks. OK, I'm sure it was round knobs not sliders, single cassette (they had dual cassettes in '79?), and pretty sure it had separate bass and treble. That's about all I can remember, except I think it was one of the main brands like Sony, JVC, Sanyo, etc. just don't remember which one.

OK thanks MasterBlaster, that helped. There are thousands of models to go through so it could take a while, but for starters, it was something like this Aiwa, but I seem to remember most of the controls were on the top.

Thanks Fatdog. Wow that Phillips is sweet! I don't remember that one. I do remember that classic Pany though, it's similar in styling to my RF-1080 radio. But it wasn't either of those. I remember the VU meters and/ or the tuning meters were on the front and the woofer and tweeter grills were round.

Could you possibly sketch it out and then scan the drawing? Or photograph the drawing? Or, hell, sketch it out in Photoshop? :-)
